How to Tile a Shower Doorway

by:Xavier      2020-04-02
The door to the shower is almost as wet and used as the inside of the shower itself. This means that the tiles installed inside the shower also need to come out and wrap around the door. This may mean passing a full tile through the shower and extending to the bathroom, or it may mean wrapping a short niche wall with a cow nose tile to create a visible doorway. In both cases, the tile area is critical to prevent the wall on the road from being damaged by water.Measure the shower door.Get the height from the floor outside the shower, get the height from the threshold, and the width of the tile area. Please note whether the tiles will turn to the outside corner and rest on the wall different from the rest of the shower tiles; This turn requires two separate sets of beef nose or finished tiles.Lay the tiles on the floor before the shower and measure how many tiles are placed vertically and horizontally. The last tile line installed must have some sort of finished edge to complete the line. This is usually a cow nose tile, but other decorative tiles can also be used. When you turn, you need a cow nose or trim to turn, and the second to finish the tile row on the adjacent wall.Use the tile spacer as needed to properly measure the tiles in the space.Cut the tiles into tiles suitable for wet saws.If you package a short niche wall, you may need to cut the complete beef nose tile.Carefully check their measurements and installation before installation.Spread a thin layer of mortar at the shower door with a spatula.Comb the mortar with a spatula cut until the thickness is uniform. If you are installing a door facing brick next to a fiberglass or acrylic shower unit, place a masking tape on the unit to help with easier cleaning.Press the tiles into the mortar according to the layout you previously identified on the floor.Work from the bottom up to help you support the tiles.Tiles coming out of the shower and finally wrapped in any corner. If you apply the tile to a tight space, place the mortar on the back of the tile with an edge spatula instead of trying to apply the mortar to the wall.Once the mud is dry for 24 hours, apply the mud at the door with the mud float.Move the float from multiple directions to the tile to wrap the grout between them.Let the mud sit for 10 minutes, then wash off the excess mud with a damp mud sponge.Let the mud dry for 24 hours.
